animorphs

A series of books written by K. A. Applegate and Michael Grant and published through the late 90's and early 2000's, about a group of teenagers with the ability to shapeshift into animals in order to fight an alien invasion. The cover art, which usually depicts said shapeshifting as a short progression, is often animorphs cover parody with other characters (or even real celebrities) undergoing strange transformations.
